Troubleshooting Guide for PC Not Booting Up
1. Preliminary Checks
- Verify Power Supply: Ensure the power cable is firmly connected to both the PC and the power outlet. Check that the outlet itself is functional by testing it with another device.
- Power Button Status: When the power button is pressed, observe if any indicator lights are showing on the PC. A solid light usually indicates power is reaching the system, while blinking or no light may indicate a power issue.
2. Basic Reset
- Power Cycle the PC: Unplug the PC from the power outlet, wait at least 30 seconds, then press and hold the power button for 10 seconds (while unplugged) to discharge any residual power. Reconnect and attempt to power on.
- Clear CMOS (if applicable): Some PC models have a CMOS reset jumper or button. Consult the user manual, reset the CMOS, and attempt to boot.
3. Verify External Components
- Display and Cables: Ensure the monitor is functional and the HDMI or DisplayPort cable is securely connected. Test the PC with another known-good monitor and cable if possible.
- Remove USB Peripherals: Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, external hard drives, etc.) and attempt to boot. Faulty peripherals can sometimes prevent the system from starting.
4. Inspect LED Indicators and Beep Codes
- Power LED: Some PC indicate errors through blinking LEDs. Refer to the specific PC model’s manual for LED error code meanings.
- POST Beep Codes: If the PC has a speaker, listen for any beep patterns after pressing the power button. These beeps can indicate specific hardware issues, such as memory or processor errors.
